The selvedge (GB) or selvage (US) is a jeans material that forms its edge "naturally". This way of manufacturing is very costly and constitutes a high standard of quality which can only be found in high-end jeans. The word is derived from the English word "self-edge" which describes the natural formation of an edge. This edge is formed due to a costly and classic weaving process which is used for selvedge denim and causes the jeans not to fray. This method also requires more material because the fabric is woven more densely which makes it a lot more durable. A colored thread is normally applied to the edge which was historically used by manufacturers to tell the fabric bales of different brands apart. At Kaweco we have a red and white selvedge for the blue pouch and a white selvedge for the black pouch.
